At BASI we regard Pilates Mat work as the “crown jewel” of Pilates.The Pilates Mat Teacher Training Program is the perfect vehicle for learning the principles of the Pilates Method. It is affordable, easy to integrate into different settings, and a great way to introduce people to Pilates.

Program’s Goal

The Mat Program provides a thorough education in the Pilates Mat work and its infinite applications. It is also the perfect springboard into the Comprehensive Programs that are offered in the U.S. and globally. The Mat Program is often taught as a part of the Comprehensive Program and is the same curriculum for U.S. and international students.

The 6 modules

This 6-module program is comprised of 24 hours of lecture, discussion, exercise
practice, and exercise analysis.

Program Structure

Module 1

The Fundamentals

Primary concepts covered include the 10 movement principles of the Pilates method, an overview of the pelvic region, Pilates breathing, an historical overview of Pilates, the BASI approach, and the importance of safety when teaching Pilates. Repertoire includes fundamental Mat exercises.

Includes a one-hour Mat class.

Module 2

Anatomy Overview Part 1

Primary concepts covered include an anatomy and terminology overview: major bones, muscles, joints, bony landmarks, and center of gravity. The importance and practice of cueing is discussed. Repertoire covered includes intermediate Mat exercises.

Module 3

Anatomy Overview Part 2

Primary concepts covered include the BASI system of movement analysis, exercise physiology, and aerobic/anaerobic exercise. The BASI format of teaching is discussed and the Block System, created by Rael Isacowitz, is introduced. Repertoire covered is intermediate Mat and exercises utilizing Leg Weights.

Includes a one-hour Mat class.

Module 4

Posture Assessment

Primary concepts covered are the principles of alignment and posture assessment. Discussion includes exercise as a tool for assessment. Repertoire covered is intermediate through advanced Mat.

Module 5

Core Strength: Back and Abdominals

Primary concepts covered are core strength and the relationship of the various muscle groups that make up the core, with particular focus on the abdominals and the back extensors. Contraindications, effective exercises, and the importance of understanding your client’s needs and body type are discussed. Also addressed are the role of the teacher and the importance of flow in a session. Repertoire covered is advanced Mat.

Includes a one-hour Mat class.

Module 6

Exercise Adaptation

Primary concepts include an in-depth look into exercise adaptation and the use of assists and modifications. Lecture focuses on how to construct a complete and comprehensive program. A general review of the repertoire is conducted. Repertoire covered is advanced Mat and Magic Circle. The online final Written Examination is available at the end of the program.

Includes a one-hour Mat class.

Tuition and Fees

Total Mat Program Tuition: $1375

Due Upon Enrollment:

  • $500 deposit

  • $100 non-refundable administration fee

The remaining balance of $875 is due 10 business days prior to the start of the Mat Program.

Tuition Fees include:

  • 1 – Mat Study Guide

  • 1 – Mat Movement Analysis Workbook

  • Final Written Exam (online in English)

Additional Fees

Testing Fees:

$150 for Mat practical exam and teaching evaluation

Studio Use Fees:

Some studios may charge a studio use fee to complete observation, self-practice, and student teaching hours. Please contact your local studio for more information.

Optional:

BASI Interactive Monthly Subscription – $10/month for Pro Version

Auditing

Mat Program Auditing Fee: $100 per module

This program is auditable! Anyone can audit, including current BASI students, BASI graduates, non-BASI Pilates teachers, or prospective students who would like to try out our education before committing to full enrollment. We are forever students and what better way to be a student than to revisit the BASI work? There are no restrictions on how many and which modules you can audit.

Please note that course books are not included for auditors, but may be purchased separately.

Discounts are available to BASI graduates and current BASI students who wish to repeat all modules of their program. Please call BASI HQ at +1 949-574-1343 to register and receive your discount.

For prospective students, BASI Pilates will apply the paid audit price of the module to the total tuition price of the program if a prospective student registers for the entire program.

Refund Policy

Refunds

BASI offers limited refunds for students who cancel prior to or during the Program. A $500.00 sum payable upon submission of your Enrollment Application is comprised of a $100.00 fee for processing your application (“Administration Fee”) and a $400.00 deposit (the “Deposit”).

If BASI does not accept your Application or if you cancel thirty (30) or more days prior to the start of the first module, we shall, as soon as possible, refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Administration Fee.

Your enrollment into a program is a deciding factor as to whether the program would run as scheduled. Therefore if you cancel fewer than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the first module, then within thirty (30) days of receiving your cancellation request, we will refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Initial Deposit (including the Administration Fee).

We shall not be obligated to refund any monies if you cancel at any time following commencement of the first module of any program (whether or not you attend that or any other module).

We reserve the right to cancel any program. If a program is cancelled and a replacement is not offered, we will refund all monies paid by you to us.

Transfers

In the event of your cancellation as described above, BASI will allow you to transfer any monies paid by you for the cancelled program to any other BASI program for which you qualify, so long as such program is scheduled to commence within one (1) year of your Application to the cancelled program.

In the event that you fail to transfer as stated, BASI shall have no obligation to refund any monies paid by you to us, regardless of when you cancelled or requested a transfer.

Please note: Our Refund Policy pertains to each Program for which you enroll and is stated in full in the Enrollment Agreement. In the event of any discrepancy between our website and the Enrollment Agreement, the Enrollment Agreement shall prevail.

Washington and Colorado Residents – Please refer to your state specific agreement.

Testing fees and Auditing fees are non refundable and non-transferable.

All fees and refunds are in U.S. dollars (USD).

Program Completion

After completing the Mat Program, students are eligible to pursue a BASI Pilates Mat Teaching Certificate.

To receive a BASI Pilates Mat Teaching Certificate, students must complete the following graduation requirements:

  • Attend all Modules

  • Pass final online written exam

  • Complete a minimum of 15 Observation hours

  • Complete a minimum of 40 Self-Practice hours

  • Complete a minimum of 30 Student Teaching hours

  • Pass final practical exam

  • Pass final teaching evaluation

In the USA the final Practical exam and final Teaching Evaluation are conducted at a Centralized Testing location. For international students, the final practical exam and teaching evaluation may be taken during the next program held at your Host Studio location, or during any program held at a Host Studio location worldwide.

Students are encouraged to begin their student hours during the Foundation Program. Up to 50% of Observation hours may be completed via BASI Interactive.

Students should aim to complete all requirements within one year of the last module of their Mat Program. However, we are happy to give an extension, if needed. If the requirements are not completed within three years, we may require the student to repeat 50% of the program prior to receiving a BASI Pilates Teaching Certificate.
